Welcome to the Oldest Boy Scout Troop in Loudoun; located in the town of Leesburg, VA. We support boys in grades six through twelve from throughout Loudoun County. Loudoun County coincides with the Goose Creek District in the National Capital Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 1159 is chartered by VFW Post 1177 which organizes, manages and supports the Troop providing guidance and support for the youth of the community.

Why do boys join scouting? " To contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities."  Ref 34 "Constitution of WOSM" (PDF) p. 2-15. World Organization of the Scout Movement (April 2000). Retrieved on 2006-07-10.

"Scouting is educational because it works toward four basic goals, referred to as the Aims of Scouting. The Scouting program is built on the idea that education should be fun. It must be fun to keep boys interested in Scouting.  The aims of scouting are character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. The methods of scouting are those tools we use to achieve the goals of scouting." Pack 228 Santa Clarita, CA  Some of the above material has been adapted from the BSA Web Site

Scoutmaster's Introduction - Jeff Meyers

Welcome to the Troop 1159 website, on behalf of all the leaders and parents striving to make this a fun and exciting adventure for your boys, I'd like to extend our invitation to attend a Troop meeting and find out all the benefits scouting can bring to you! We are closer to your Pack than you may have realized, please see the Goose Creek Cub Packs link to the left for a Map and distance. Our Historian's Journal is written by the Troop Historian and gives a brief synopsis of our recent adventures. The Troop Events page gives you a summary of our camping and activities for several years. Please investigate.

Meetings are at 7:00 pm on Tuesdays at VFW Post 1177 at 401 Old Waterford Rd, Leesburg across from the Rust Library and generally run one and one half hours. The Scout Patrol Leader Council (PLC) meeting (aka Green Bar) replaces the regular meeting every 1st Tuesday of the month but all scouts and parents are welcome to attend... Please contact us via email at ljsmeyers@verizon.net when you plan to visit to ensure our plans coincide.

Some Troops are called Boy Led and some really are, we entrust the operation and direction of the Troop to the SPL and his PLs with appropriate training and guidance. Sometimes this leads to a bit of chaos and many might say that they'd like an efficiently operated organization.... well it's BOY Scouts and they're learning as they go along so we get there even if it's by a circuitous route.

Please be encouraged to browse our site, learn and participate in the Troop. Many volunteers start as young adults after they themselves have completed their time in scouting, others join before they have sons, but most help when their sons join in elementary school. Some adults stay long after their sons have grown giving a lifetime of service to the Organization. Any part you can contribute is worth your time to yourself, your family and your community.

We are a medium sized Troop that meets frequently and camps every month. We have a Court of Honor once per quarter, attend a BSA Resident Camp for a week in June-July, take High Adventure trips and our Committee meets monthly. Our activities vary and are planned yearly by the SPL/ASPL and approved by the Scouts and adult Leadership. We have a Scout led Troop which is guided, enabled, and empowered by Adult leadership but not directed by it. We give the scouts the opportunity and means to achieve their goals while encouraging them to be independent young leaders.
